Let’s Journey Together to Build Stronger Cities and the GMA Brand

Hanson
I'm excited to begin this next phase of my career as your Executive Director of GMA, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead such an amazing organization. I have heard from so many GMA members and appreciate the outpouring of support and encouragement as we embark on this journey together.

And I do believe it is a journey. My career in local government has been one continuous journey of learning, listening and leading. Chanda Kochhar said, “Aim for the sky, but move slowly, enjoying every step along the way. It is all those little steps that make the journey complete.” I have enjoyed every step along my career journey and feel like each step has led me to where I am today, with you and with GMA.

As we enter a new year, I look forward to sharing many of the experiences and lessons I have learned in local government with other cities in Georgia. Likewise, I am excited to learn from each of you as we work together to serve our cities and our citizens. I have always been proud to be affiliated with GMA because of the value the association provides cities looking for resources, advocacy and training. I learned so much from being involved with the association and local officials from across our great state. I know that by working together we will become stronger in our service, and more unified in our message and our voice. I will strive to listen intently and gain member insight as to how we can serve you better.

It’s my personal goal to continue GMA’s long tradition of being a resource for cities, especially smaller cities who may have limited staff and/or resources to address challenges. From my professional experiences, I believe we have some opportunities to help cities with revenue generation and cost management that I’d like to see GMA explore.

Finally, I want for us to work together to develop the GMA brand. “Advocacy, service and innovation” is what GMA does, but it doesn’t express who we are as an organization. We are going to explore that concept this year by asking all our members to weigh in and develop our brand and identity.

I thank you all again for your support and confidence in me. I am honored to be a part of the GMA family and join this great organization, team of professionals and dedicated elected officials from across Georgia. I know together we will have a successful 2018 and make our cities an even better place to live, work and play.
