Profiles in Leadership: Alex Gregory

June 10, 2019
Alt
When he accepted a job at the YKK Corporation of America’s Macon, GA, manufacturing facility in 1973, Alex Gregory become one of the company’s first U.S. employees. (YKK Corporation of America is a subsidiary of the Tokyo-based parent company.) Over the years, Gregory’s hard work, quick thinking and savvy business acumen led to multiple promotions, moving him from positions such as manager of the Weaving Department in Macon to working in the corporate headquarters in Marietta. He eventually took on the role of Vice President, then Chief Executive Officer and President as well as Chairman of the Board.

In his time with YKK, Gregory worked in or with virtually every department and team and likely knew more about the company than any other employee. That alone made him an excellent choice to lead the organization, but it was Gregory’s leadership skills, heartfelt concern and support for his employees and unyielding drive to innovate and improve that truly made him successful.

Now retired, Gregory frequently speaks at events like GMA’s Annual Convention and shares stories from his 40-plus years in management and the lessons he’s learned along the way.

Alex Gregory is one of the leaders giving a speech during the convention’s General Session, which is taking place Sunday, June 23, at 3:30 – 5:15 in the Chatham Ballroom at the Savannah Convention Center. For more information, click here.
