The purpose of the proposed legislation is to offer law enforcement agencies the option to destroy seized firearms. Unclaimed firearms are to be transferred to the Division of Forensic Sciences of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation unless determined to be unsafe by the sheriff, chief of police, agency director, or designee due to wear, damage, age, or modification or because any federal or state law prohibits the sale or distribution of a firearm.
 
Restrictions on the timeline of auctions are proposed to be removed.
