The purpose of the proposed legislation is to add to the category of former law enforcement officers who are entitled to be issued a weapons carry license without paying certain fees. This includes: weapons carry license, temporary renewal permit, mandamus, and verification of license.
 
The legislation proposes extending benefits to former law enforcement officers who:
Served for at least 10 of the last 12 years before retiring or served 10 years and left employment as a result of a disability in the line of duty.
