Subject Area: Municipal Powers |
Resources: bill text
This legislation would amend Georgia's laws creating systems and procedures for providing and regulating notifications of data breaches involving Georgia residents. The legislation would expand the definition of "covered entity' to include a much larger group of entities than current law and would expand the term "data collector" to include courts and law enforcement. The legislation also allows the Attorney General to impose civil penalties for failures, order compelling notice, and for recovery of costs. Additionally, actions may be brought in court against a covered entity which does not send out a notice it was required to send.
