This legislation would prohibit employers, including municipal employers, from requesting or requiring an employee disclose any username, password, or other means of accessing a personal account or service from an electronic device. This prohibition would include social media accounts. The legislation would not affect access to information relevant to an investigation of allegations of employee misconduct. Violations by an employer could lead to civil penalties of not less than $200 nor more than $400.
