GMA contracts with Municipal Revenue Services Corporation to assist local governments in collecting delinquent insurance business license fees due to Georgia cities. In December of each year the fees are disbursed to the cities. In 2013, $938,218 was disbursed to members of this program.
Georgia law allows cities to collect a fee from insurance companies doing business within the city's boundaries. Doing business is defined by the selling of insurance policies to individuals or businesses. Most cities actively collect the current license fees due to the city. Fees are only collected by Municipal Revenue Services once they become delinquent. Many times the city benefits in the future from the delinquent collections by adding those companies to their records and billing for current collections in subsequent years.
