The city of Kennesaw took top honors in the medium-sized companies division of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Atlanta’s Healthiest Employers Award. The city placed fourth in 2013.
Each year, the Chronicle partners with Healthiest Employers LLC, a data research company focused on the corporate wellness industry. Healthiest Employers collects, measures and compares corporate wellness data worldwide. Atlanta companies were invited to take a survey that measured workplace wellness efforts with the results scored in six categories. The medium-sized company category includes employers of 100-499 employees; the city of Kennesaw employs 201.
Kennesaw’s award cited the testimonial of Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Ben Southard, who credits the city’s wellness program with saving his life. A colonoscopy he was encouraged to obtain by health coach Ruth Ingram detected cancer, which was removed through a series of surgeries. Southard is now cancer-free and committed to a healthier lifestyle.
“It’s gratifying to see employers demonstrate how much concern they have for the quality of life of their employees by offering initiatives like a wellness program,” said Human Resources Director LisaRae Jones. “The support employees get from our health coach and each other helps them improve their lives, both in and out of the workplace.”
