The city of Decatur celebrated National Bike Month with a variety of activities during the entire month of May. On May 4, hundreds of children in the city schools participated in National Bike to School Day. The police department offered bicycle registration at several events and registered more than 30 bikes.

For Bike to Work Week, Decatur Active Living set up an Energizer Station in front of the recreation center and served riders snacks as they passed. Georgia Commute Options staff were also on hand for residents to test out an electric bike and explain their program. Community partners also offered several group rides including a ride to Stone Mountain and a shorter ride around the city. Active Living also planned an “Arts in Decatur” themed ride for their monthly Third Friday Bike to take place in June. A designated Bronze-Level Bike Friendly Community by Georgia Bikes, Decatur wrapped up bike month by offering bike valet at the Decatur Arts Festival during Memorial Day Weekend to encourage attendees to bike to the event and have a safe place to leave their bikes.
