Cities across Georgia are encouraged to celebrate the 2016 Georgia Cities Week April 17-23 with the theme “Go To Town!”
Georgia Cities Week gives cities an opportunity to share information about the valuable services cities provide to residents and how cities positively impact their quality of life. The week is also an opportunity to celebrate community achievements and recognize volunteers and city employees.
Sign-up sheets will be mailed to cities in December, and Resource Kits are scheduled to be mailed out in January.
The Resource Kit includes ideas for celebrating Georgia Cities Week and supporting materials. Some ways in which cities participate include holding city-wide clean ups in conjunction with Keep Georgia Beautiful, recycling events, displays of city equipment, moving council meetings to different locations, such as public parks or local high schools, inviting students to participate in coloring contests or essay contests and holding open houses at city facilities. Cities are also encouraged to use social media to celebrate and promote their events, such as using Twitter to send out reminders of events or to post interesting facts about the city to its followers.
