Defined Contribution and Deferred Compensation Program

At-a-Glance

As your employees plan for retirement, they need reliable ways to save. That’s why GMA offers the Defined Contribution and Deferred Compensation (DC/DC) program which allows participants an effective way to supplement pension and social security benefits. DC/DC plans may include an employer contribution (401a plan) and/or the employee’s own pre-tax contribution (457b plan).  Learn more about how our service offers competitive administrative fees and solid investment choices for local government entities.


Benefits

DC/DC offers competitive benefits that make it a better choice than standalone commercial offerings.
  • Pre-tax savings. Any deferred earnings are not taxed until you receive them in retirement.
  • Tax credits. You may qualify for a savings credit on your federal taxes.
  • Diversified Low-Cost Investment Choices.  22 mutual fund options (including target date funds) and a Stable Value Fund, all of which utilize some of the lowest cost share classes available in the investment industry.
  • Competitive Pricing.  GMA leverages defined benefit retirement fund assets to lower plan fees whenever possible to ensure that participants get to save more of what they earn.   
  • Dedicated GMA Staff.  GMA employees are committed to educating plan participants through seminars and one-on-one meetings.
  • Easy Account Access.  Via on-line or through our dedicated client support 800- number.

Costs

GMA provides DC/DC plans at no administrative cost to our cities.  We deduct a quarterly administrative fee from each participating employee’s account at a rate of 15 basis points (100 basis points = 1 percentage point) and $16.
We offer a plan for defined contribution and a plan for deferred compensation. For both plans, our experienced Board of Trustees oversees the investments.
 

GMA 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan

The defined contribution plan allows employers to contribute on behalf of their employees and/or match contributions employees make to their deferred compensation accounts. The GMA defined contribution plan has 60 members representing more than 2,000 participants and approximately $30 million in assets.
 

GMA 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan

The deferred compensation plan allows municipal employees to voluntarily supplement their retirement savings through the deferral of income before it is taxed. The GMA deferred compensation plan has nearly 120 members representing nearly 3,000 participants and nearly $60 million in assets.
