Selection Process

Applicants must successfully complete and submit an application. Parental permission and references are required with the application. Applications will be reviewed, and qualifying candidates selected for the interviewing process. Applicants must be academically eligible to participate in their school's sports and extracurricular activities, and be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior during the program year which follows the schools' calendar year.

Do youth council members attend schools in the city or county or both? Are members enrolled in private school or home schooled?

Applicants must be a Waynesboro-Burke County resident currently attending Burke County Schools, prive schools or are home schooled. 

Does group act as an advisory committee for your City Council and/or County Commission

Yes, the Youth Council Advisory Board.

Does group participate in overnight events?

Yes. 

Words of advice to share with cities considering the establishment of a youth council

Set guidelines prior to implementing the program. Make sure the youth understands the mission and agrees to participate fully.

Event Description

The City of Waynesboro Youth Council participates in Waynesboro Clean and Beautiful Campaign, he Mayor's Festival of Trees, Trick or Treat on Liberty Street, Christmas on Liberty Street, and the Back to School Bash.
