How much per day are people spending on city government?

Say what you will about property taxes being the most hated tax, it is at least the most transparent. You get your tax bill in a lump sum (unlike sales taxes which leak out of your wallet every time you purchase something) and you can look at your local government budget to see where it's being spent. Try doing that with your state or federal income taxes.

What Condition are Your Bridges In?

At the Georgia Press Association's Editorial Conference a few weeks ago, newspaper folks shared some great story ideas. The best one - as voted on by the group - came from the Gainesville Times. The Times looked at Department of Transportation information on bridge conditions and discovered that the bridges crossing Lake Lanier are in need of some work.
