The 2012 GMA Mayors’ Day Conference offers an important opportunity for city officials to become engaged on the issues that shape the environment in which cities must operate on behalf of their constituents. Be there to network, become informed, make your voice heard and to celebrate the magic of cities!

Managing Local Government in Uncertain Times
Monday, January 23 | 1:30 – 3:30 pm (Closing Session)

Changing demographics, issues in education and the economy and evolving federal, state and local government relationships could dramatically influence leadership styles and the delivery of services by cities and counties. This session will offer insights into the numbers behind the 2010 Census, take a critical look at key trends in public education and examine how global competition for jobs and investment will affect Georgia. Through the use of interactive technology, attendees will have an opportunity react to presentations and discussions by a distinguished panel.

Pre-Conference Workshops
Friday, January 20 | 2:00 - 4:00 pm
  • L.O.S.T.: In This Moment With You!
    During this session, participants will learn about important changes to the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) law and will hear from experts with previous experience in negotiating LOST agreements. The session will include tips on how to negotiate and what to expect during negotiations, suggestions to quantify and document the criteria for distribution and other practical advice.
  • Saving Money on Energy Costs: From Gas Fleets to Electricity Financing
    In this session local leaders will be presented with money-saving options to convert their fleet vehicles and explore refueling stations for alternative fuels on a statewide basis.  Participants will also engage in a discussion on a wide range of energy cost-saving strategies for cities.
